Connecting a Terminal or PC to the Multiplexer
For the configuration process, you can use either an asynchronous ASCII terminal or a PC. If you
use a PC, a VT-100 terminal emulation program must be installed and running before you can
configure the multiplexer.
When the configuration procedures are completed, the terminal or PC may be disconnected from
the 719 NETWORKER. At that point, the PC may also be used as a basic-feature workstation on
the NMS.
Connecting an ASCII Terminal
Any ASCII terminal can be used to configure the 719 NETWORKER. Make sure the following
parameters are set on the terminal:
PARAMETER
SETTING
Character Length
8 bits
Stop Bits
1
Speed
9600 bps
Duplex
Full
Clock
Asynchronous
Parity
None
You need an EIA RS-232 (DB-25) cable to connect the terminal to the NETWORKER.
To connect the ASCII terminal to the 719 NETWORKER, perform the following steps:
1. Connect one end of the cable to the modem port on the terminal.
2. Connect the other end of the cable to the lowest-numbered channel (other than 0) available
on the back of the 719 NETWORKER.
NOTE
Do not use Channel 0 (zero). This channel is set by the
manufacturer to 300 bps.
3. Turn on the terminal.
4. Turn on the 719 NETWORKER or
PRESS: RESET
button on the front of the 719 NETWORKER if it already has power. The LEDs (Light
Emitting Diodes) on the NETWORKER display the following sequence:
888
333
444
