6 Adjusting the electrode(s)
The best possible function of the MyoHand VariPlus Speed is achieved through optimal position-
ing and adjustment of the electrodes. This is easy with the MyoBoy (757M10) or with the MyoBoy
(757M11) with USB Port.
Attention!
Allow the patient to rest during the adjustment of the electrodes to avoid fatigue and
thus incorrect electrode settings (i.e. excess sensitivity). The electrodes should be placed
on intact skin only and with as much electrode-skin contact as possible. In the case
of strong interferences from electric devices, the position of the electrodes should be
verified and, if need be, repositioned. If the interference cannot be eliminated, please
contact the Ottobock Myo-Service.
7 Adjusting the control modes
(Fig. 3 to Fig. 6)
For optimal adaptation to the patient there are 6 control modes, which can be selected and
adjusted using the MyoSelect (757T13). The MyoHand VariPlus Speed is delivered with control
mode 1, DMC plus, activated.
Control modes 1, 3, and 4:
Adjust the electrodes so that the patient can maintain the respective electrode signal for approxi-
mately two seconds at a point above the value HIGH (Fig. 3).
Control mode 2:
Adjust the CLOSING electrode so that the patient can maintain the electrode signal for approxi-
mately two seconds at a point above the value ON (Fig. 2). Adjust the OPENING electrode so
that the patient can maintain the electrode signal for approximately two seconds at a point above
the value LOW (Fig. 4).
Control mode 5:
Adjust the electrodes so that the patient can maintain the respective electrode signal for approxi-
mately two seconds at a point above the value ON (Fig. 5).
Control mode 6:
The upper threshold (see control mode description) can be adjusted using the Ottobock MyoSe-
lect (757T13).
In the PAULA program, select "Digital Twin Hand without function plug". Adjust the slider on the
scale to 3.5. The MyoHand VariPlus Speed is delivered with the adjustment regulator of the elec-
tronic control already set to 3.5. Now adjust the electrode so that the electrode signal reaches a
value just below the threshold – marked in PAULA with a broken line at 3.5 (Fig. 6): The MyoHand
VariPlus Speed closes. Exceed the threshold with a quick and strong electrode signal to open the
MyoHand VariPlus Speed.
If the electrode signal is to slow or too weak, reduce the threshold in PAULA (slider). Then set the
adjustment regulator C of the electronic control to the same value using MyoSelect.
