Two I/O boats were reported to be in the same location in a chassis. Try testing
each I/O boat separately and examine if the reported location of the I/O boat is
correct. Try an I/O boat that is valid and working in each bay of a chassis to
determine if failure is contained in the chassis.

Boat Not Monitored

Possible Causes

■

The I/O boats are connected to two different systems.

■

I

C component access errors prevent detection of both I/O boats.

■

Corrupted FRUID contents in the centerplane chassis prevent the firmware from
identifying the correct External I/O Expansion Unit chassis.

Resolution

1. Verify that both I/O boats are connected to the same server.

The I/O boats can be configured into different domains on the same server, but
the boats must be managed by the same service processor (XSCF). Otherwise, both
systems might attempt to update the same FRUID data causing data corruption of
FRUID records in the centerplane and PSUs.

2. Inspect the host system to see which add-in slots contain link cards.

Verify that software correctly detects the link cards. If a link card is present and
powered on, but it is not seen by software, there might be problems with the I

bus going to this slot. Replace the link card or move the link card to a different
slot.

Note –

If an I/O boat is present, but the External I/O Expansion Unit is not

displayed as a 4-character value when listed by

ioxadm

, the software could not read

the serial number from the centerplane.
