4.7

Replacing a Link Cable

This is not a hot replacement procedure. Link operations will be interrupted.

Note –

Ordering a complete set of replacements at one time can shorten the

troubleshooting process. If you cannot determine if a link problem is caused by a link
card or a link cable, order replacement link cards for the host and the I/O boat, along
with a copper link cable or two optical link cables, as appropriate.

1. Power down the link.

See

Section 4.4, “Powering Down a Link Before Service” on page 4-6

.

2. Use an antistatic strap for this procedure.

3. Replace the link cable or cables.

If you are replacing a copper link cable, there is one cable. Both ends of the cable
are identical.

If you are replacing one or both cables in an optical link, note that the ends of each
cable have either a TX label (Transmit) or an RX (Receive) label. It is possible to
plug a connector into the wrong socket on a link card, so ensure that you plug
each connector into the appropriately marked TX or RX socket on the link cards.

4. Power up the link.

Replacing a Link Card in the Host Server
