steps until the loudness just drops below the desired level and then bring it up slightly from there. If you have an
Omnia-6 Exi with the new LoIMD clipper, this control will interact somewhat with the IMD Tune control
whenever the IMD Tune control is set above 0. See the description of the IMD Tune control below for full details.
Clipper Silk: This control adjusts the texture of the main clipper when the clipper is handling significant mid and
upper midrange program material such as solo electric guitar, etc. We've brought out a hidden control from the
distortion-canceling algorithm to allow you to make subtle tradeoffs in how the final clipper texture sounds. Higher
numbered settings (clockwise) soften (or silken) the sound of the clipping at higher frequencies, with only a slight
reduction in brightness on some material. The sound of clipping low frequency material (<2Khz) is largely
unaffected.
Composite Drive: This controls the drive to the DSP-based composite clipper. A setting of 0.0 is the same as the
clipper being “off “. This clipper operates on the entire baseband signal up to 53kHz, except for the 19kHz pilot. No
matter how hard you drive the composite clipper, you cannot clip the stereo pilot. Embedded within the composite
clipper is a 53Khz phase linear low pass filter for SCA protection, as well as a wide and deep pilot notch filter.
These filters combine to remove clipping harmonics and prevent them from affecting the stereo pilot and SCA
regions.
IMD Tune: (Exi Only) This control adjusts the amount of IM (intermodulation) distortion correction applied by the
new LoIMD clipper algorithm. Proper settings will greatly reduce (without loudness loss) the “rattling” effect that
can occur in some midrange material (vocals or solo instruments) when significant low bass material is present at
the same time. A setting of “0” effectively turns the IM correction off. There is some interaction with the main
Clipper Drive control where higher settings of the IMD Tune control will reduce overall loudness, even with very
high Clipper Drive settings. Since these two controls interact, it is important to adjust them carefully. The preferred
method is to first set the Clipper Drive control as you normally would, with the IMD Tune control is set to “0”.
(Off) Once the Clipper Drive is set as desired, turn the IMD Tune control up (with some dense, full-bandwidth
program material playing) until the loudness just starts to fall off and then back it off by one number. More
aggressive presets may require lower numbered settings to preserve the desired loudness.
