level is reached, is set by the remaining RTP Speed settings (Slow, Medium or Fast). If no RTP gain reduction is
desired, use the RTP Speed setting Freeze.
Note: The Freeze setting will keep the gain from decreasing when the AGC is gated (moving down on the bargraph
meter toward the RTP Level setting) but will not keep it from increasing toward the RTP Level setting when the gate
activates at a gain reduction level higher than the RTP Level setting. For example, if the RTP Level is set to –5 dB
and the gate activates while the amount of gain reduction is 10 dB, the gain will recover to the –5 dB gain reduction
level before it freezes.
Note also that due to the way in which the RTP 'circuit' works, the RTP Speed settings are somewhat affected by the
setting of the Attack time control.
For some presets, small changes we made to the compression ratio will affect the displayed value of the RTP. For
instance, if you set the RTP Level value to “-10” but notice that the band gain recovers only to –5 dB when gated, it
is because we have set a slightly lower ratio. Simply use the “-15” setting in this case to have the gain return to –10
dB when gated. Note that ratios are critical to the open and musical sound of the Omnia-6EX, and therefore we do
not offer them as user adjustments.
If you wish to bypass the Wideband AGC stage, you may do so by selecting the Bypass option. When the AGC is
bypassed, the static gain remains the same as if 12dB of gain reduction was in effect and the Master Drive control
was set at 0.0dB.
The Stereo Op. control (new in v7.0.2) allows you to gang (stereo strap) the two stereo channels of the WB AGC
together. Previously, they always operated independently. The “Ganged” setting will preserve stereo imaging while
“Indep” will help compensate for program material that may have slightly unbalanced left and right channels. (at
the expense of a less stable stereo image)
AGC Crossover (XO)
The audio signal from the WB AGC section is divided into five user-adjustable frequency bands within the AGC
XO section. The crossover frequency points for the five bands are controlled by the four controls along the bottom
of the window. The various crossover choices are:
Low Freq. to Mid Low (LF/ML)
– 100Hz, 120Hz,
150Hz, 190Hz, 250Hz;
Mid Low to Mid High (ML/MH)
– 400Hz, 500Hz,
700Hz, 1Khz, 1.5Khz;
Mid High to High Freq. (MH/HF) – 2.5Khz, 2.8Khz,
3.2Khz, 3.7Khz, 4.4Khz;
High Freq. to Super High (HF/SH) – 5.5Khz, 6Khz, 7Khz,
8.5Khz, 10Khz.
Note: The factory default crossover points for most
presets are 150Hz, 700Hz, 3.2kHz and 7kHz.
