9-1 Replacing the battery
Though the battery life depends on the operating environment and frequency of use,
replacement of the battery is recommended whenever the battery operation time becomes very
short.
Contact Olympus about changing the battery.
For details about how to load and remove the battery, see “Using the battery” (page 22).
9-2 Replacing the O-ring
Replace the O-ring using the spare ones that come supplied with the optical adapter.
Replace the O-ring periodically.
The position to attach the O-ring differs between 6-mm type and 4-mm type. Refer to “Distal end/
optical adapter nomenclature” (page 14) and “Attaching and removing the optical adapter”
(page 24), and attach the O-ring at the correct position.

Cleaning the insertion tube
Dirt or other foreign objects on the insertion tube:
Wipe with a clean soft cloth.
Dirty water, machine oil or other liquid on the insertion tube:
Do not use a hard cloth or hard brush, but wipe it with a soft cloth or cotton swab, and then wash
thoroughly with a piece of gauze or other material moistened with a neutral detergent. Then, use
a clean, soft piece of soft gauze moistened with clean water, and wipe the insertion tube to dry
all moisture.
NOTE
Clean the insertion tube immediately after pulling out the insertion tube. Leaving the insertion
tube very dirty for a long period can cause it to become corroded.
