SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Always turn the lathe off at the mains supply and remove the
plug before carrying out any maintenance, tool changing, gear
changing, chuck replacement or lubrication.
Do not wear loose clothing, jewellery or anything that could get
caught in the moving parts of the machine.
Always check the operation of all guards and keep them in place
at all times.
Do not use the machine if any of the guards fail to operate
correctly.
Always wear safety glasses or goggles when operating metal
cutting machinery.
Ensure that the chuck key has been removed from the chuck
before starting the lathe.
Check that the cutting tool is secured at the right height in the
tool post and that the tool post is locked into position.
Do not use water as a lubricant or cooling medium. Only use the
minimum amount of oil or soluble oil.
Do not allow any lubricant or coolant to come into contact with
the motor or wiring.
Do not attempt to defeat any of the safety micro switches, they
are provided for your safety.
Do not store tools etc. on the top of the lathe or on the lathe
bed slides.
Always check that the work piece is securely held in the chuck.
Always check the position of the cutting tool before starting the
cut.
Always use the correct cutting tool, spindle speed and feed for
the material to be machined.
Ensure that the lead screw drive is in the disengaged position
before starting the machine.
Ensure that only the minimum amount of material is protruding
from the chuck to allow safe completion of the cut.
When machining longer work pieces always use the tail stock
with a live centre fitted.
Do not attempt to change any of the gears with the lathe
running.
This manual has been produced with the experienced metal
turning lathe user in mind and only covers the basic safe
operation of the engineers lathe. For the user who has little or
no experience with using this type of machine we recommend
the purchase of suitable publication covering basic metal turning
techniques.
UNPACKING.
Caution! This packaging contains sharp objects. Take care
when unpacking. This machine could require two persons to
lift, assemble and move this machine. Remove the machine,
together with the accessories supplied, from the packaging.
Check carefully to ensure that the machine is in good condition
and account for all the accessories listed in this manual. Also
make sure that all the accessories are complete. If any parts are
