Async Gateway Troubleshooting Strategies

The following information can help you troubleshoot and maintain the Novell

®

GroupWise

®

Async Gateway. For information about gateway error messages, see

Troubleshooting the Gateway

Troubleshooting any software program requires that you to break down the process into its
components, isolating each component to narrow down possible causes of the problem and thereby
determine a solution.

One way to isolate the problem is to use gateway logging. The log information tracks message
movements and can help you isolate breakdowns in the message routing process. Problems in the
Async Gateway most often occur in either in an Async connection you have defined (to another
Async Gateway or to a GroupWise Windows client in Remote mode), or in a modem or port.

Connection Suggestions

If you isolate the problem to a specific connection, try the following strategies:

Verify that the connection information is correct. See

“Determining Async Connections” on

page 19

and

“Selecting a Serial Port Configuration” on page 20

.

Use the Queue Maintenance option to make sure all the directories required for the connection
have been created. See

“Performing Queue Maintenance” on page 93

Define a similar connection to find out whether it works. See

Chapter 4, “Defining Async-to-

Async Connections,” on page 35

.

Delete the faulty connection and redefine it.

Port and Modem Suggestions
