Once the container is closed, deployment of the parachute must be tested. Leave
the pieces of paraglider line in the loops and pull the red deployment handle. If the
instructions were followed closely and everything was fitted perfectly, then the
rods will release and the parachute can be pulled out of the container with very
little effort. The required force must not exceed seven (7) daN.
If the required force is much higher, then the parachute may be too large. If the
parachute cannot be deployed, then the rods should be checked (never push one
rod through two loops!).
If in doubt, contact a NOVA Service Partner, dealer or parachute repacker.
After the deployment test, the container must be closed again using the same se-
quence described above and the pieces of paraglider line must then be carefully
and slowly drawn out of the loop. Finally, the container lid can be folded down.
At this point you should also check that the speed bar and/or stirrup do not impede
the parachute deployment.
Comments
• Before every flight, check the parachute container is closed correctly. Check that
the rods are threaded through the loops correctly.
• Know the location of your deployment handle. In calm conditions, practise putting
your hand on the deployment handle (obviously without pulling it!) and mentally
rehearse a deployment.
• Ensure that you check that the handle is present and correctly positioned in
advance of every flight.
Operation
Technical features
Scoop Protector
The scoop is critical for the rapid inflation of the airbag. When the harness is pa-
cked into the rucksack there is the risk that this scoop could be damaged. This has
a negative impact on the airbag’s inflation - in an extreme case the airbag may not
inflate and the pilot is left without back protection.
The Scoop Protector is a zip, which, when open, allows the scoop to lie flat against
the harness. The scoop is made from plastic which is susceptible to deformation.
The Scoop Protector holds the plastic against the harness. It can then be safely
stored in the rucksack. This means that the scoop and airbag are protected from
the effects of transport, wear and tear.
Important: please ensure that the Scoop Protector zip is closed before every flight.
And open it before packing away the harness.
