b) Maintenance of the filtering materials:
1. Replace the filtering materials as required, observing the recommended intervals (see the table). Make sure that the coal
bags lie flat, and that neither the coal bags nor any other components block the hole for circulation of water coming from the
aquarium.
2. Rinse the filter body without soap or detergents. Any residue can damage the delicate tissues of the fish.
3. Gently rinse the baskets containing the biological material with water taken from the aquarium, to avoid destroying the
bacterial colonies in the filter substrate, which are responsible for the welfare of the aquarium.
ATTENTION:
chloride in the tap water causes death of the colonies of beneficial bacteria contained in the porous rings
4. Install the baskets with the filtering materials into the filter case, carefully following the steps from 8 to 13 of Section
“INSTALLATION OF THE FILTERING MATERIALS”.
Note: Do not replace all the filtering materials with biological action (sponges, porous rings, etc.) simultaneously, ignoring
the determined intervals for their replacement. Part of the old materials left in the filter stimulates reintegration of important
bacterial colonies that were lost with the materials removed.
ATTENTION: IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF NEWA KANIST, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO
USE ORIGINAL FILTERING MATERIALS AND SPARE PARTS NEWA®.
