TILT SWITCH OVERVIEW
The Stir-Rite uses a tilt switch to control the
advancement of the stirring machine around the
bin. When the machine is moving around the
bin, an auger may encounter some tough areas
of wet or dirty grain that cause the auger to lag.
Though some lagging is normal, a tilt switch
is used to switch off the gear motor when the
beam is tilted beyond a specified angle (so as
to prevent undue strain on the augers.) The tilt
switch is normally set between 5° and 7°.
The augers will lag as the machine travels
forward. Once the augers have lagged back a
certain degree (as determined by the setting of
the tilt switch) the switch will shut off the gear
motor—thereby stopping the forward movement
of the machine. The augers will keep running
and work their way through the grain (even
though the machine is temporarily stationary).
The machine will resume circling the bin once
the augers have worked their way back to a
more vertical position and have actuated the tilt
switch.
TILT SWITCH ADJUSTMENT
NOTE: If the tilt switch isn’t adjusted correctly
excessive lagging of the the auger can cause it
to kink or to break off.
To adjust the tilt switch, loosen the bolts that
secure the switch to the frame. See Figure 40.

Tilt the switch
up for less
lagging; tilt it
down
for more
lagging. See Figure 41.
Figure 41. Tilt Switch Indicator
Setting the tilt switch to the largest tick mark
works best for most applications.
Once the bin is full of grain observe the ma-
chine’s operation. If the augers are not lagging
back far enough, rotate the tilt switch down-
ward.
Don’t let the augers lag excessively.
Be extremely cautious when rotating
the switch downward: Move it ONLY
in small increments at a time—and then
carefully observe the operation of the ma-
chine. If the down augers are allowed to lag
too far they will kink or break off.
If the augers are lagging back too far, rotate the
tilt switch upward.
