Chapter 4 When Occurrence of Fault Is
Suspected
If the Built-in DVD-RAM drive operates improperly and the occurrence of a fault is
suspected, see the troubleshooting chart shown in this chapter to find the cause of the fault.
WARNING
Do not disassemble, repair, or alter the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
Never attempt to disassemble, repair, or alter the Built-in DVD-RAM drive on any
occasion other than described in this User's Guide or the manual of the computer in
which the product is installed if you are not a maintenance engineer. Failure to follow this
instruction may cause an electric shock or a fire as well as malfunctions of the product.
Troubleshooting chart
Phenomenon Cause Action
The power of the computer is
set to off. Turn on the power of the computer. (Then the
POWER lamp goes on.)
The DC power cable is not
connected to the Built-in
DVD-RAM drive. Connect a power cable coming from the power unit in
the computer to the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
The interface cable is not
connected. Connect the Built-in DVD-RAM drive and the CD-
ROM drive to the IDE connector on the motherboard.
For the connection, use the interface cable coming
with the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
The Built-in
DVD-RAM
drive does
not operate.
The device ID jumper is set
incorrectly. Set the device ID jumper on the Built-in DVD-RAM
drive correctly. Leave the settings at the shipment for
the switches other than that used to configure the ID.
The disk is not put on the tray
correctly. Put the disk on the tray correctly.
The disk is put on the tray in
improper inserting
orientation. Insert the disk in the proper orientation.
Disk cannot
be set.
Another disk is already set to
the Built-in DVD-RAM drive. Eject the disk being set and then set the proper disk.
The interface cable is not
connected to the Built-in
DVD-RAM drive. Connect the Built-in DVD-RAM drive and the CD-
ROM drive to the IDE connector on the motherboard.
For the connection, use the interface cable coming
with the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
The interface cable is
damaged. Replace the interface cable. Use the interface cable
coming with the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
The
computer
cannot
recognize
disk (the
Built-in
DVD-RAM
drive).
The device ID jumper is set
incorrectly. Set the device ID jumper on the Built-in DVD-RAM
drive correctly. Leave the settings at the shipment for
the switches other than that used to configure the ID.
Incorrect software (driver) is
installed. Install the correct device drivers. Depending on the
operating system and the computer, the order of
loading the device drivers may be restricted. Refer to
the manual of each device driver.
