Accessing the set screw
e
Within the blower assembly, locate the four nuts that secure the blower
motor to the blower housing (new devices have four nuts, replacement units
have two nuts). Loosen, remove, and set aside the nuts and washers.
f
Remove the motor. Clean the blower housing to remove dirt and lint.
g
Remove and save the molded rubber mounting washer. Next, remove the
grounding wire attached to the blower assembly housing, then remove the
old motor.
h
Locate the grounding wire attached to the replacement motor provided in
the blower motor replacement kit.
i
Attach the ground wire on the replacement motor to the original location on
the blower assembly housing.
To reassemble the new motor and blower:
1
Attach the molded rubber mounting washer.
2
Place the motor in the blower housing, then attach with reserved nuts
and washers.
3
Insert the squirrel cage into the blower assembly, then tighten the set screw.
4
Place the cover on and secure with the three reserved screws.
Allen (or Torx) driver
should be placed through
blower opening and slot
in squirrel cage to access
the set screw.
NOTE
#
The replacement motor has only two threaded studs (see Figure 6.5); you may have two
extra sets of washers and nuts.
Mating quick disconnect crimp terminals are supplied with the replacement motor
assembly. Use the terminals to replace butt-splices as applicable.
When reassembling the motor and blower assembly, pay attention to the following:
Do not over-tighten the inlet cover screws; over-tightening can strip the screw
threads on the blower housing.
Ensure that no unused hardware (e.g., washers, nuts) remains inside the blower
housing wall.
Ensure that motor housing nuts are snug only. Use Loctite
®
242 locking compound
(not included) or equivalent on the threads.
Ensure that approximately a 1/8-in. (32-mm) gap exists between the squirrel cage
and the inlet cover.
Ensure that the squirrel cage does not rub on the motor screws before and after
tightening the set screw.
Ensure that the set screw bears on the flat of the motor shaft and is firmly tightened.
