7.16.2 Charge-air coolant – Draining
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.

WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
• Let the engine cool down.
• Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
Draining charge-air coolant
1.
Provide an appropriate container to drain
the coolant into.
2.
Turn breather valve of coolant expansion
tank counterclockwise until the first stop
and allow pressure to escape.
3.
Continue to turn breather valve counter‐
clockwise and remove.
4.
Draw off precipitated corrosion inhibitor oil
from the expansion tank through filler neck.
5.
Open the drain valve at the drain point in
the coolant pipe to the charge-air coolant
cooler and drain the coolant, (see unit man‐
ufacturer).
6.
Open drainage screw on the elbow of the
charge-air coolant pump and drain the cool‐
ant.
7.
Draining of residual coolant:
• At the charge-air cooler.
8.
Close all drain valves and install drain plugs
with new sealing rings.
9.
Set breather valve onto filler neck and close
it.
