SYNCING TO VIDEO AND/OR SMPTE TIME
CODE USING A SYNCHRONIZER
If your host audio software does not support the
896mk3’s on-board SMPTE sync features (because
your software does not support sample-accurate
sync), you need a universal synchronizer, such as a
MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV or Digital Timepiece.
These dedicated sync boxes can read video and
SMPTE time code and then convert it into word
clock and MIDI Time Code (MTC). The word
clock goes to the 896mk3 to resolve the audio
hardware, and MIDI Time Code is fed to your host
audio software, which locks to it, as shown below
in Figure 3-9.

Choose Word Clock In as the clock source in the MOTU Audio
Setup application. If you have multiple interfaces
connected, be sure to choose the Word Clock In option that
corresponds to the interface receiving the clock signal.
Set up your audio software to
slave to MIDI Time Code.
