Factory default
The settings that are programmed into a printer at the factory. The
printer uses these settings unless they are replaced by user settings
selected from the control panel or through application software.
Font
A complete set of characters and symbols in one size, typeface, and
style. Size refers to the character height and is usually measured in
points (1/72 inch). Typeface refers to the character design, such as
Courier, Times, or Helvetica. Style refers to the character’s
appearance, such as Italic or Bold. Typical examples of fonts are
12-point Courier Bold and 10-point Times Italic.
Fusing unit
The internal part of a page printer that bonds the toner to the paper.
It consists of heat and pressure rollers that the paper passes through
after toner has been applied.
Grayscale
A series of shades that range from black to white. When color
images are printed in black and white, the brightness of a color is
registered using this series of shades.
Halftoning
A method of expressing the varying densities of a color using dots.
Image Color Matching
A Windows 95/98-based system that is designed to adjust the
colors of an image that are output by a printer (or other device) so
that they closely resemble their onscreen appearance.
Image Transfer unit
The part inside of a page printer that transfers the image from the
photoconductive drum to the paper.
