You must have the appropriate network protocol installed on your 
computer before you can print on a Microsoft Windows network. The 
procedure below describes how to install TCP/IP and IPX/SPX under 
Windows.

Note

Note

On the 

Start

 menu, point to 

Settings

 and then click 

Control 

Panel

, double-click 

Network

This displays the 

Network

 dialog box. If 

TCP/IP

 is displayed in 

the list on the 

Configuration

 tab, it means that TCP/IP is already 

installed and there is no need for you to continue with the rest of 
this procedure.

Click the 

Add

 button.

In the list on the 

Select Network Component Type

 dialog box 

that appears, click 

Protocol

right side of the dialog box.

• Be sure that you have a complete understanding of your network envi-

ronment before changing any network settings. If you are unsure about 
anything, check with your network administrator or some other person 
with network administrator level knowledge. Incorrect network settings 
can cause serious network malfunction.

• A message asking for the Windows setup CD-ROM may appear during 

the following procedure. Have the Windows setup CD-ROM on hand 
and load it into your CD-ROM drive if instructed to do so.
