Introduction of the New G-Class, Model Series 463
7G-TRONIC transmission
All models are equipped with the familiar 7G-TRONIC
automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT inter-
face.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC is used on
the AMG variant. This is equipped with three transmis-
sion modes, double-clutching function and high
shifting comfort thanks to short shift times and
smooth shift operations.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC has been
optimized with modifications to the torque converter
and main transmission.
It features a new generation of torque converter which
offers improved dynamic response characteristics
combined with reduced fuel consumption.
The consumption-reducing measures include a reduc-
tion in drag through a new bearing on the oil pump,
improved Torlon rings on the input and output shafts
as well as a new automatic transmission fluid
(FE-ATF).
Automatic transmission oil supply
The new AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC on the
G 63 AMG is also start/stop-capable. This is made
possible through the use of an electric transmission oil
pump for pressure supply when the fixed displace-
ment pump is stationary. When the combustion
engine is shut off in ECO start/stop mode, the oil
supply by the primary pump is interrupted.
The electric transmission oil pump takes over the oil
supply for the control elements and actuators of the
automatic transmission. Since the electric transmis-
sion oil pump maintains the transmission oil pressure
during the stop phase, the vehicle can start off imme-
diately after the engine restarts.
i
Note
The color of the new fluid has been changed from
red to blue because it may not be used in older
transmissions. The notes in Service Information
bulletin SI00.40-P-0014A in WIS must be
observed when using the new transmission oil.
i
Note
The oil change intervals have been extended
because the transmission fluid is subjected to less
energy due to the minimization of drag. For more
information, see the corresponding documents in
WIS.
