Introduction of the New G-Class, Model Series 463
Axles
The G-Class is equipped with precisely guided and
extremely sturdy rigid axles with high twist capabili-
ties. They feature trailing arm suspension with
panhard rods and provide traction even in the most
challenging off-road environments.
The rigid axles, a typical feature of cross-country vehi-
cles, have the advantage of providing a large amount
of ground clearance. In contrast to independent wheel
suspension, the axle housing is automatically raised
on rigid axles if a wheel drives over an obstacle.
The joint housings have been modified due to the
different brake calipers on the front axle.
The good twisting capabilities of the axles and longer
spring travels also ensure the best possible ground
contact of the wheels.
The engine and transmission mounts have also been
modified and adapted to the driving characteristics of
the AMG.
