Chlorine Dioxide System
EASYZON Dd
Operating Instructions
2 Safety
2.1 General warnings
The following warnings are intended to help you to eliminate the dangers
that can arise while handling the system. Risk prevention measures al-
ways apply regardless of any specific action.
Safety instructions warning against risks arising from specific activities
or situations can be found in the respective sub-chapters.
DANGER
Mortal danger from electric shock!
Wrongly connected or located cables or damaged ones can injure you.
ð
Perform the electrical installation in accordance with the appropri-
ate circuit diagram.
ð
Replace damaged cables without delay.
ð
Do not use extension cables.
ð
Do not bury cables.
ð
Secure cables to avoid being damaged by other equipment.
DANGER
Danger to life through explosions!
Chlorine dioxide gas (ClO
2
) is prone to explode if the concentration in the
gas phase becomes too high.
ð
Never use chemicals with a higher concentration than prescribed.
ð
Never heat the chlorine dioxide solution.
ð
Comply with the specifications in Chapter 5 „Technical data“ on
page 13.
DANGER
Danger to life from poisoning!
Mixing sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid outside the reactor will
result in the development of chlorine dioxide gas. Chlorine dioxide is a
very toxic substance if inhaled and very irritant for the eyes, the respira-
tory organs and skin. Prevent the uncontrolled development and re-
lease of chlorine dioxide gas by complying with the following instruc-
tions.
ð
Avoid contact between sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid out-
side the reactor.
ð
Mark clearly all material-conducting components (e.g. collecting
pans, chemicals canisters, suction lines, hoses, pumps) with a col-
our. Renew the damaged markings regularly.
ð
Take steps to prevent the mixing of hydrochloric acid and sodium
chlorite outside the scope of the controlled processes by separating
the chemicals strictly and never swapping suction lines/lances.
ð
Install a gas sensor or a gas warning device which deactivates the
system following the presence of chlorine dioxide in the room air.
ð
Install an emergency stop switch with which the system can be
deactivated from a safe distance. The emergency stop switch
should be located outside the room in which the chlorine dioxide
system is located. It should be easily recognisable.
ð
Always wear sufficient personal protective equipment when in the
area of the system.
ð
Comply with the safety instructions outlined in the safety data
sheets of the chemicals and meet the corresponding safety precau-
tions.
WARNING
Danger of fire!
Dried up sodium chlorite has an oxidising effect and can ignite flamma-
ble materials.
ð
Do not allow sodium chlorite to dry on flammable materials.
ð
Use suction lines with a foot valve to avoid leaks when changing the
container.
ð
Remove any spilt chemicals with large amounts of water.
ð
Rinse out splashes of chemicals on articles of clothing with large
amounts of water immediately.
