6. How the cowCam™-solution works in the barn/home
1. The camera monitors your cattle, the signal is transmitted via the cable to the
A300-antenna outside the barn.
2. The A300-antenna on the barn wall transmits the signal to the receiving A300-antenna.
3. The videoLink receives the signal from the receiving A300-antenna and then transmits it
in your house for better picture quality.
4. The portable LCD-monitor receives the signal wirelessly from the videoLink and gives
you a comfortable supervision of your cattle in your home.
Optimal picture quality is obtained if there is a clear line of sight between the transmitting A300-
antenna (10dBi) and the receiving A300-antenna (10dBi), i.e. no obstacles at all between the
A300-antennas. Start by looking at above illustration and find a line with as few obstacles as
possible between the places where you intend to install the (10dBi) transmitting A300-antenna
(your barn) and the (10dBi) receiving A300-antenna (your house). Two A300-antennas pointing at
each other give you a wireless range of 800 meters at a clear line of sight.
As the illustration above indicates, it is important that both A300-antennas are placed on the
outside of the barn and the house to reduce the number of obstacles. The antenna can be placed
on the roof, outside an upper floor or on another wall to avoid buildings or large trees in the line
between the A300-antennas. The included antenna cable allows the camera to be placed up to 25
m from the transmitting A300-antenna (10dBi).
Step by step
1. Decide where you intend to place the transmitting A300-antenna (10dBi) and the receiving
A300-antenna (10dBi). It is important that the antennas are pointed as exact as possible
towards each other.
2. Make sure that there are as few obstacles (trees, bushes, buildings) as possible in the line
between the A300-antennas.
3. The receiving A300-antenna is connected to the videoLink to obtain a wireless range
extension inside your house. The videoLink has a range of 20-30 meters inside.
Information
The 2,4 GHz frequency signals are sent as radio waves in the air. The waves
can penetrate most objects or bounce around them. However, the signals loose
strength at every obstacle (trees, windows, walls etc.) they need to penetrate. If
penetrating metal or concrete, the signal strength will be substantially reduced.
