Firmly grasp both screws and pull the card free from its rear connector and straight out of
the slot in which it is located.
Note:
Long ingress slot cards that occupy the top slot have small tabs on each side,
below the jack screw and the lock screw. These tabs can be grasped between the thumb
and forefinger of each hand for additional leverage during removal. The tabs are pictured
on a T1 slot card in Figure B-4.
Replacing APX 1000 fans and filters
An APX 1000 unit is cooled by forced air ventilation provided by three fans located in the
front of the unit. The fans are covered by the protective plastic cover of the unit.
To enhance the life of the fans, cool air is drawn into the chassis through the air filter and past
the fans.
You can remove and replace the fan assembly while the APX 1000 unit is in service.
Hot-swapping the fan assembly does not affect the operation of the unit as long as it is replaced
within 5 minutes if the ambient temperature is 25°C (77°F) or lower, or before heat buildup
within the APX 1000 reaches excessive levels.
Fan replacement
To replace the fan assembly of an APX 1000 unit, use the following procedure:
1
Remove the front cover of the APX 1000. To do so, place two fingers of each hand into
the notches on each side of the plastic panel, shown in Figure 3-20, and pull.

Remove the fan assembly by grasping the handle loop on each side of the fan assembly
and pulling the assembly straight out from the chassis as shown in Figure 3-21.
