Selecting the installation site
Before you choose a setup location for a APX 1000 unit, read and follow the site and electrical
requirements defined in Appendix D, “Safety-Related Electrical, Physical, and Environmental
Information.”
Select the setup location carefully. Keep in mind that the unit requires proper ventilation and
space for current and future cabling requirements. You can rack-mount an APX 1000 unit in a
standard equipment cabinet with a width of 19 inches (48.26cm). For more environmental
information, see “Environmental specifications” on page D-4.
Required installation tools and equipment
To install APX 1000 hardware, you need the following tools and equipment:
•
RS-232 straight-through modem cable for connecting a PC or workstation to the unit
(ITE-6801)
•
Antistatic wrist strap and mats (ITE-4987C)
•
Number 2 Phillips screwdriver
•
1/8-inch standard screwdriver (KS-6854)
•
3/16-inch standard screwdriver (R-5205)
•
3/8-inch socket wrench (R-6001)
•
(Recommended) Mechanical lift (R-6074)
Understanding the unit’s back panel
Figure 2-2 shows the back panel of an APX 1000 unit. The shelf controller is always in the
bottom slot, labeled CTL. The remaining slots are numbered 1 through 5.
