FIELD ADJUSTMENTS AND OPERATING TIPS
1.
Compare cultivator with planter to verify row settings.
2.
Check gang movement.
a. Vertical travel – Gang should move up and down without wobble, but not
binding. Readjust tightness/looseness of the gang tower linkage arm if
necessary
b. Horizontal movement – This must be kept to a minimum. Check and readjust
linkage arm tightness after initial usage.
3.
Set the gauge wheel arm length to attain the desired penetration depth. The depth
varies according to soil texture and condition. All gauge wheels must be set at the
same working depth to obtain a uniform pull on the cultivator. In some cases, the
gangs located behind the rear tractor wheels of the tractor can be set lower for
better overall results.
4.
Check level of toolbar. Make sure the tool bar is level with the ground. Adjust the
3-point hitch as needed to level the cultivator.
5.
Adjusting the tractor hydraulic depth so the parallel linkage arms run at an angle
between 5 degrees minimum to 20 degrees maximum. Set the depth of the 3-point
travel to obtain this variance. See Fig. 11.

6.
When operating with stabilizers, the 3-point sway blocks must be out. Without
stabilizers, the 3-point sway blocks must be in.
7.
During operation, it is beneficial to maintain a ground speed of not less than 5 mph.
A slower speed will result in side-to-side cultivator movement. Maintaining a higher
speed will provide greater shank action.
8.
Make sure the shovel sizes and positions are similar to each gang. Odd size shovels
in unmatched positions across the cultivator will cause an uneven cultivator pull.
