FIELD OPERATION
The C-Shanks are fastened to the gang toolbars by means of a spring-loaded C-Shank
assembly. The special C-Shank assembly locks, fastened on both sides, secure the
assembly in position and reduces side-to-side movement of the C-Shank assembly. It is
very important that the main assembly bolt and the lock U-bolts remain tight.
Over the years, it has been shown that breakage of tines usually occurs when the tines
have run while loose on the toolbar. We, therefore, strongly emphasize to check and
retighten the bolts after two to three hours use.
Proper mounting of the cultivator onto the tractor is important to cultivator operation.
Remembered that the self-levelling device levels the cultivator from front to rear, and this
together with the top link arm, will enable you to adjust the cultivator so that all of the
tines front to rear will work at the same depth.
For example, if extra horsepower is needed, the front end is working deeper than the rear
row or vice versa. It is, of course, also important that the tractor’s lift arms are adjusted so
that the cultivator is level from side to side, as well as from front to rear. In order to get
the cultivator to work level, it is important that the A frame is perpendicular to the ground
when the cultivator is working. To provide for a more aggressive cultivator dig, tip the
cultivator back a little by extending the upper 3-point link arm.
ROW CROP CULTIVATOR ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1.
See Fig. 1. Position the main beam of the cultivator on two appropriate objects for
easy assembly (sawhorses work very well). The wide face of the beam should be
resting on the objects used to position the beam.
2.
Mark for cultivator gang placement.
a.
Locate and mark the center of the beam. This will serve as your standard
guide.
b.
If 30-inch rows are the desired spacing, mark off every 30 inches to each
side of the center mark.
