Release the parking brake. With the
engine running, depress the brake
pedal and measure the pedal reserve
distance.
Pedal reserve distance from tibia pad at
490 N (50 kgf, 110 lbf):
IS350: 105 mm (4.13 in.)
IS250, manual transmission: 104 mm
(4.09 in.)
IS250, automatic transmission: 108 mm
(4.3 in.)
F05. TRANSMISSION OPERATION
Automatic transmission
a) Check that the engine will not start if
the shift lever is in any range except
for “P” or “N”.
b) Check that the shift lever cannot be
moved from the “P” range without de-
pressing the brake pedal.
c) Check for smooth up-shift and down-
shift operation over a broad range of
driving conditions.
d) Check for smooth up-shift and down-
shift operation when the shift range
position is “S”.

Check that the transmission shifts
up when the shift lever is moved
toward the front.

Check that the transmission shifts
down when the shift lever is
moved toward the back.
Manual transmission
a) Check that the engine will not start if
the clutch pedal is not depressed.
b) Check that the shift lever cannot be
moved from the “N” without depress-
ing the clutch pedal.
c) Check for smooth shift operation over
a broad position of driving conditions.
