6.2
Default Login Security Enhancements
6.2.1
Overview
With firmware version 1.194 or later, security enhancements were made regarding the default login account.
These enhancements restrict the conditions in which the default login account is enabled, exposing the Lenel
controllers to unauthorized access.
Since the credentials (user name and password) for default login account are well-known and are the same
on all of the controllers, it is important to reduce the possibility that the default login account is left enabled
on controllers at customer sites.
6.2.2
Previous Behavior (pre-v1.194 Firmware)
Prior to firmware version 1.194, the default login account was accessible under the following conditions:
•
If there were no other user-defined accounts, the default login account was always enabled
•
If DIP SW1 was set to ON, then the default login account was enabled
•
If a user-defined account was created using the same credentials as the default login account
To ensure that the default login account is properly disabled:
•
Ensure that at least one user-defined account exists on the controller with different credentials than the
default login account
•
DIP SW1 is in the OFF position
The above guidelines were not always followed when controllers were deployed on customer sites, making
the controllers vulnerable to attacks.
6.2.3
Modified Behavior (v1.194 Firmware and later)
With firmware version 1.194 or later, the default login account cannot be left enabled indefinitely. The
following changes have been made:
•
The default login account is no longer enabled even if no user-defined accounts have been created
•
To enable the default login account, place DIP SW1 in the ON position; you will have five (5) minutes
to log in
•
After logging in (or rebooting the controller), the default login account is disabled until DIP SW1 is
toggled from ON to OFF and back to ON
Note:
Ensure at least one user-defined account exists on the controller prior to updating to version
1.194 or later. Doing so eliminates the need to visit the controller and toggling DIP SW1 to
enable the default login account.
