5. Assembling the microscope – condenser
Condenser heads
There are 4 different condenser heads available:
1) S1/1.40 oil
2) S1/0.90 dry
3) S23/0.53
4) S28/0.55
Condenser head 1 and 2:
• Screw the spacer ring (Fig. 41.2) into the threaded hole on
the bottom of the condenser base.
• Screw the S1 condenser head into this spacer ring.
Condenser head 3 and 4:
• Screw the condenser directly into the condenser base.
The S40 and S70 condensers are delivered complete with
condenser heads, so no additional assembly is necessary.

Assembling the polarizer
Preconfigured at the factory.
Proceed as follows when performing upgrades:
Motorized condenser:
See the enclosed Assembly manual.
Manual condenser:
• Fasten the 1-position or 3-position position holder onto
the top of the manual condenser as necessary. The
holder has a guide that must be inserted into the opening
next to the screw thread. The holder must be positioned
so that the polarizer to be inserted or the filter covers the
opening of the condenser (Fig. 44).
• Now, insert the polarizer or filter into the holder with the
desired side facing upwards (
λ
: lambda and polarizer;
POL: only polarizer). A clicking mechanism indicates tells
you when it is positioned correctly. It must be possible to
turn the polarizer slightly in the guide (approx. 30°) until it
reaches both stops.
