5.5 Servicing the Focus Lens
Cartridge
The standard head has a symmetric
doublet focus cartridge. Other focus
lens cartridges are available, if
needed for your application, see your
Laser Mechanisms Sales Engineer.
It is possible to change the focus
lens cartridge with the head mounted
to the machine by using the
procedure that follows.
Before opening any part of the head,
clean off the dust and/or process
debris according to
Section 5.1 .
Always wear powder free gloves or
finger cots when handling optics and
optic holders.
1. Clean the outside of the head
according to Section 5.1 .
For steps 2 and 3, see Figure 48 .
2. Loosen the (4) captive M3 SHCS
securing the focus lens holder door to
the head.
3. Remove the focus lens holder door.

It is the Laser Mechanisms’
recommendation to replace the
focus lens cartridge as an
assembly.
For steps 4 to 9, see Figure 49 .
4. Push the focus lens holder into the
head until the retention guide is clear
of the retention notch in the carriage.
5. Lift the fixed lens holder up past the
retention notch.
6. Pull the fixed lens holder out of the
carriage.
7. Align the new focus lens holder
assembly so:

The guide plunger notches are in
line with the guide plungers in the
head.

The retention guide is centered
between the (2) retainer bars.
8. Push the holder toward the back of
the carriage and down so:

The retention guide clears the
retention notch.

The holder seats flush on the top
of the carriage.
9. Spring plungers will push the holder
toward you so the retention guide is
trapped in the retention notch.
