Setting Up Your AIT Drive

LaCie d2 U&I AIT Drive
3.1 Installing Your LaCie AIT U&I Drive
In order to use your LaCie AIT drive, you will need to first install application software. Unlike a hard disk, CD-R/RW or DVD-
RAM/R/RW drive, the AIT U&I drive will not be displayed on your Windows or Mac desktop, and will not be attributed a
logical unit letter in Windows. Instead, this drive is managed entirely by the application software, which displays a list of con-
nected drives. As a result, when you want to backup your information, you will need to utilize the application software.
For guidance on application software that can be used with your LaCie AIT Drive and the supported operating systems,
please contact your reseller or LaCie Technical Support.

Important Note:
At the time this manual was created (May, 2002), Apple does not support USB 2.0. You will be
able to use the USB 2.0 cable to connect your drive to a USB 1.1 port on your computer, but you will be limited
to USB 1.1 speeds and performance. Therefore, we recommend that you use the FireWire connection to achieve
the best possible results with your drive.
Driver Installation
Before using your drive, you will need to first install the appropriate drivers. They are included with your drive on the LaCie
Tape Utilities disc.
1) Insert the LaCie Tape Utilities CD-ROM in your computer’s internal CD/DVD drive.
2) Click on the
LaCie Tape Utilities icon
on the desktop, and the CD-ROM volume will open.

button.
5) The setup process will begin and finish automatically.
Connecting with FireWire
Attach one end of the FireWire cable to the FireWire port on your LaCie AIT U&I drive, and the other end of the FireWire
cable to the internal FireWire port on your computer. Your drive should now be ready to use.
