SECTION V
Adjustments
P 5.1
893 09 12
Adjustments are tasks that the operator may occasional-
ly need to perform while the closer is in the production
area.
A. INTERLOCKS:
The outside upper belt plate (bogie plate) and the
lower belt cover each have a safety interlock switch.
If the belt plate or belt cover are removed while the
machine is running, the belts immediately stop. For
proper operation the magnet must be within 1/8”
(3.2mm) of the switch. To adjust, loosen the mag-
net mounting screws and re-position. Tighten the
screws and confirm proper operation of the inter-
lock.
B. LOK CHECK ADJUSTMENT:
Figures 5.1 to 5.3
When properly adjusted, the tip of the lok check
drops into the closure web as the pick brings the
closure strip down the lok track at the end of the
closing cycle. The lok check prevents the closure
strip from moving up the track while the pick is mov-
ing up the closure strip. Adjust as follows:
1.
Actuate the closer one time, and watch the pick
as it brings down the next closure. Make sure
the pick stops in its lowest position.
2.
With the lok check in the engaged position,
loosen the two lok check mount screws and
raise or lower the lok check assembly until the
tip of the check is slightly above the middle of
the notch between the two closures. Tighten
the two mounting screws and test the adjust-
ment.
NOTE: CLOSURE OPENING MUST FACE THE
ONCOMING PRODUCT. NOTE THE BACK OF
THE WEB OF THE END CLOSURE IS FREE TO
EXIT PAST THE REMAINING CLOSURE STRIP.
(Figure 5.2)
C. BAG SENSOR LEVER ADJUSTMENT:
Figures 5.4 to 5.8
As the bag sensor lever rotates across the face of
the sensor, the sensor activates as indicated by a
light located on the sensor (Figure 5.4). When the
actuating lever rotates away from the switch, a sig-
nal is sent to the closer controller board, initiating
the closing cycle. Adjust the switch as follows:
Disconnect power to the 893 closer before
proceeding.
1.
Remove the lower belt guard located in front of
the belt drive cartridge.
2.
Depress the bag sensor lever and measure the
clearance between the sensor lever and the bag
actuating sensor. Use a feeler gauge to check
that there is a clearance of .032” (0.8mm) maxi-
mum between the lever and sensor (Figure 5.4).
Use two 13mm wrenches to loosen and adjust
the position of the sensor if needed. Tighten the
sensor locking nuts and again check the clear-
ance.
3.
With the bag sensor lever in its upright (neutral)
position, measure the distance between the
head of the sensor lever stop screw head and
the back edge of the sensor lever (Figure 5.5).
The measurement in the photo is 1/4” (0.64
cm). The measurement can vary from closer to
closer. This is a reference measurement only.
It is a starting point from which to adjust the
point of actuation between the lever sensor and
the sensor lever stop.
4.
Turn the closer on.
5.
Slightly loosen the two Number 10 button head
screws securing the bag sensor bracket to the
bag switch block. Depress the bag sensor lever
until the back edge of the lever has moved 3/64”
(1.2mm) farther away from the initial measure-
ment described in number three above (Figure
5.6).
