G. CLOSER SLIDE POSITION:
Figures 2.3 and 2.4
The slide frame mount allows the closer to move, to-
wards or away from the conveyor. The distance be-
tween the closer and the conveyor effects package
tightness. As the closer moves towards the con-
veyor, the package will be closed tighter. If the
closer is positioned too close to the conveyor, the
bag will be overstressed, resulting in bag damage
and incomplete closing. The wider the bag, the fur-
ther from the conveyor the closer will need to be.
1.
Using the slide frame adjustment lever, position
the closer so there is about 1/2” gap from the
closer guard to the conveyor side. Adjust the
closer away from the conveyor to reduce pack-
age tightness. Adjust the closer toward the con-
veyor to increase package tightness.
2.
Utilizing the slots in the bag tensioner mount,
set the bag tensioner as close to the conveyor
side frame as possible. The bag tensioner can
be moved away from the conveyor, as required,
to increase product tightness.
3.
Locate the bag neck rod in the bag neck rail
mounting holes closest to the conveyor side
frame. The rod should be formed so that it ta-
pers from its mount towards the closer lower
belt guard, stopping as close to the guard as
possible. If the bag tensioner is moved away
from the conveyor, then the rod can be relo-
cated in the mounting holes that are farther
away from the conveyor and reformed as nec-
essary.
4.
Adjust the bag tensioner upper fence so that it
is in alignment with the bag neck rod and is just
above the centerline of the product.
F.
CLOSER ANGLE ADJUSTMENT:
Figure 2.3 & 2.4
Some closer (head) angle is required for proper
closing of the product. The amount of head angle is
based on the width of the bag. The wider the bag,
the greater the head angle required. When properly
set, the wrinkled pattern created by the closer gear-
belts across the bag tail should be straight or have a
slight curve. A sharp bend indicates insufficient head
angle. Too much head angle will result in a loosely
closed package.
1. Rotate the closer towards the conveyor, insuring
that the hinge clamp screw enters into the yoke
arm clamp (which is attached to the conveyor
side). Set the angle of the closer to a starting
dimension of 2 ¼” (5.72cm) between the con-
veyor side and the corner of the closer frame.
This dimension will place the closer at the most
common angle needed to close a typical bakery
bag.
If the hinge clamp screw will not mate, vertically,
with the yoke arm clamp, reposition the clamp
pivot bracket on the closer frame.
2. Set the position of the head angle stop, which is
located on the yoke arm clamp so that it con-
tacts the hinge clamp screw. The stop enables
the closer to be reset at the selected angle after
the closer has been rotated out of position for
maintenance purposes.
