To make it easier to ventilate the oil system, KTM has included a hose
connection and a plastic hose in the tool set to build a filling tool. Take an
empty oil can (1 liter) and punch a Ø 7mm hole in the lid.
Run the hose connection through the lid from the outside and secure with
an M8 hexagon nut on the inside. Place the plastic hose on the hose
connection.
Fill 0.6 liters of engine oil into the oil can and remove the plug
1
next to
the steering head. Insert the plastic hose in the vent hole
B
and fill 0.6
liters of engine oil into the frame breast pipe. Remove the plastic hose, start
the engine and let it run in neutral (approx. 20 seconds), until oil begins to
run out of the hole
B
. As soon as oil runs out, turn off the engine, mount
the plug and gasket and tighten to 25Nm.
Allow the engine run warm, check the oil drain plug and fine screen filter
for leaks and check the engine oil level. Place the motorcycle on a level sur-
face(on the center stand). Check the engine oil level - it may not exceed the
MAX mark, otherwise engine oil will get into the air filter box via the engine
ventilation.
Add engine oil if necessary.

CAUTION
!
– N
OT ENOUGH ENGINE OIL OR LOW
-
GRADE ENGINE OIL WILL CAUSES PREMATURE
ENGINE WEAR
.
– C
HECKING THE OIL WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD WILL NOT SHOW THE CORRECT OIL
LEVEL ON THE DIP STICK
.
– D
O NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM LEVEL
.
– D
O NOT ALLOW TO DROP BELOW THE MINIMUM LEVEL
.
When you are finished, check the entire oil system and engine for leaks.
Mount the fine filter cover on the frame breast pipe.
NOTE: Never pour used oil in the sewer or dispose of it outdoors. 1 liter of
used oil will pollute 1,000,000 liters of water.
Mount a new gasket
4
, place a new oil filter
5
on the connection in the
oil filter cover
3
and mount. Tighten the 3 screws to 5 Nm. Mount the
banjo bolt
2
with gaskets and tighten to 15 Nm.
When you are finished, start the engine, check the oil system for leaks and
mount the engine guard.
Changing the oil filter *
Change the oil filter when you change the engine oil. Depress the foot
brake pedal and place a screwdriver or similar object between the foot
brake pedal and the stop roller for better access to the oil filter cover.
Remove the banjo bolt
2
and the 3 screws. Carefully take off the oil filter
cover
3
with the gasket
4
and remove the oil filter. Clean the filter hou-
sing, oil filter cover and sealing areas; check the oil duct in the oil filter cover
and make sure they are not clogged.
