Dismounting and mounting the front wheel
Jack the motorcycle on the frame until the wheel no longer touches the
ground.
Loosen the two clamp screws
2
on the left fork leg. Loosen the collar nut
1
and then the clamp screws
2
on the right fork leg.
Hold the front wheel and pull out the wheel spindle
3
.
NOTE: the wheel spindle is easier to pull out if you insert a 6 mm hexagon
wrench (from the tool set) and move the spindle back and forth.
Carefully remove the front wheel from the fork and take the speedometer
drive
4
off the hub.
!
CAUTION
!
– D
O NOT APPLY THE HAND BRAKE AS LONG AS THE FRONT WHEEL IS DISMOUNTED
.
– A
LWAYS LAY THE WHEEL DOWN WITH THE BRAKE DISK FACING UP TO AVOID
DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE DISK
.
Before you mount the front wheel, clean and grease the shaft seal ring
5
and the contact surface
6
to the speedometer drive. To mount the front
wheel, lift the wheel onto the fork and place the speedometer drive on the
hub. Make sure the driving tabs
7
engage in the slots in the drive.
Position the front wheel and speedometer drive and mount the wheel
spindle.
The speedometer cable must run along the outside of the fork protector
and in front of the triple clamp to the speedometer.
Mount the collar nut
1
, leading the speedometer cable upwards parallel to
the fork leg (see below). Tighten the clamp screws
2
on the right fork leg
to prevent the wheel spindle from turning and tighten the collar nut to 40
Nm. Loosen the clamp screws on the right fork leg, take the motorcycle off
the stand, apply the front wheel brake and vigorously compress the fork
several times to align the fork legs.
Now you can tighten the clamp screws on both fork legs to 10 Nm.
