Backup System
There are two options offered to provide a back up for your hot water if the solar does not produce enough energy. On
sunny days, the solar will provide the majority if not all the energy you require for hot water. A backup system is
required for cloudy days, or in winter months when the number of daylight hours are less. The first uses an electrical
element in the tank to provide energy. The element is sized at 4.5kW, sufficient for most domestic applications. The
second uses a second coil in the tank and connects to your existing boiler. See diagrams on the following pages for more
information.
The auxiliary heater is not connected to the solar system in any way and can provide hot water if the solar system
completely fails.
