Disposal
All components are made from material that may be recycled. Please see the following pages for details of materials
used in the construction of Thermomax collectors and recycle it when complete.
Servicing and Maintenance
Correctly installed solar water heating systems require little maintenance. If properly maintained over its lifetime, the
system is expected to last 25 years and beyond.
Users should regularly check the temperatures which the solar control panel is recording. With the SC range of
controllers, simply pressing the ‘SET’ button on the front of the controller once will display the minimum and maximum
collector temperatures since the control panel was last reset. If the collector temperatures have been excessively high,
over 338
o
F, it is recommended that the glycol pH level be checked using PH test strips by a qualified technician. The
glycol level should also be checked by a refractometer to make sure its freeze protection is sufficient for the location.
A fluid sample can be obtained by opening the air purge port until a small amount of fluid comes out. The fluid should
be pink and clear if the system has not stagnated excessively. Fluid that has been damaged will appear murky and
darker in color. Check the PH using a glycol PH strip to verify it is between the acceptable limits (9 – 10.5).
It is recommended that the solar system is serviced annually by a qualified technician and immediately if the
system shows evidence of having lost pressure or has discharged liquid at the pressure relief valve. The
Tyfocor glycol fluid should always be replaced after 7 years. Refer to local regulations for the proper methods
for glycol disposal.
