Additional Operating Information

Using Dual-Coil Switches and Attenuators

Figure 5-6 illustrates the pulse actuation for two channels (switches) and the

relationship of the drive parameters to the power supply requirements.

As shown in the figure , the actuation pulse is applied to channel 1 and held for

the T(Pulse) time set by the bank preset which is 15.0 ms, or as set with the

command:

ROUTe:CHANnel:DRIVe:PULSe:WIDTh

The actuation pulse is applied to channel 2 only after a power supply recovery

period has elapsed T(Recovery). The power supply recovery time can be set for

each channel, and is set to 0.0 ms during a bank preset (Chapter 4). The recovery

time can be changed using the command:

ROUTe:CHANnel:DRIVe:TIMe:RECovery

When verifying channel closure, you can also specify a settling time (T(Settle)).

This parameter ensures the switch has had time to change state before the

position indicator (of the switch) is evaluated.
The settling time can be set for each channel and is set to 0.0 ms during a bank

preset (Chapter 4). The settling time can be changed using the command

ROUTe:CHANnel:DRIVe:TIMe:SETTle

The L4490A/L4491A will always pulse a channel in response to a

ROUTe:OPEN

ROUTe:CLOSe

command. For example, sending

ROUTe:CLOSe

to a channel three

times in a row will result in three actuation pulses.
