5. Installation and assembly
In case the vertically adjustable upper section needs to
be shortened, cut it at a 15 degree angle as shown in the
illustration. It is recommended that there is at least a 20
cm free space below the base of the upper section (as
shown in the illustration) – if 20 cm is not available, please
cut off the lower portion of the upper section accordingly.
Now insert the upper section with the clamping ring
(loose, not yet tightened) into the separator tank to the
desired height (the large bolts in the clamping ring should
have the bolt heads facing down – threads pointing up).
The upper section can be tilted by up to 5 degrees to
match any on-site slopes. The bolts of the clamping ring
should be resting on the upper portion of the separator
tank, if this is not the case adjust the bolts so the bolt
heads come in contact with the separator tank. Now tigh-
ten the clamping screws so that the clamping ring is tight
with the upper section. Fine mm adjustments can be
made by adjusting the vertical bolts on the clamping ring.
When backfilling (with 0-16mm crushed stone or concre-
te) it is important that the backfill material is placed com-
pletely around the upper section, especially directly un-
derneath the top rim of the cover. If compacting, a steel
plate should be placed over the upper section and the
compactor can be run over the steel plate which will as-
sure even compaction as well as the material under the
rim of the upper section being properly compacted. If the
supplied upper section(s) do not offer enough height, the
917402 extension section is available.
Remaining filling
For installation in areas of heavy vehicle traffic (cover
class D), a reinforced concrete slab must be provided as
the upper layer. A corresponding formwork and reinfor-
cement plan is available from KESSEL.
5.6 SonicControl Installation
In the case that the KESSEL SonicControl grease measurement
system may be installed at a future date, a DN 40 (50mm outer
diameter) conduit pipe should be layed. A 60 mm diameter
hole should be drilled out at the location on the separator indi-
cated below.
The length of SonicControl cable between the separator and
the SonicControl control unit location should be kept as short
as possible as well as keeping the conduit as straight as possi-
ble (no unnecessary bends over 45 degrees). This conduit
should have a continuous slope in the direction of the separator
which will let any moisture or condensation flow into the sepa-
rator. Condensation build up can be significantly reduced be
providing an air tight conduit connection on the control unit
side. A pull string or cable can be left in the conduit to ease the
installation of the SonicControl cable at a later date. The So-
nicControl cable can be extended on-site but only to a maxi-
mum total length of 30 meters.
