Maintenance and Troubleshooting SR-100i User’s Manual
output busbar (wire #9). Leave the negative voltmeter lead connected to the
negative side of C1.
13.
Turn on the power supply and give the system a start command. When the
red D.C. Power light illuminates, the voltmeter should read +250 VDC. If
the voltage is correct, the chopper is working properly. Check for open
wires between the chopper output and the Torch Electrode connection on the
I/O p.c. board (skip the rest of this test).
14.
Remove the start signal and measure the voltages across capacitors C1 and
C2 on the chopper. Note that the chopper has a conformal coating on it. Be
sure that the voltmeter leads break the surface of the coating when making
measurements. The chopper capacitors C1 and C2 should both read
approxi14 VDC. If the voltages are incorrect, measure the voltage
on the primary and secondary of the chopper transformer (TR3). The
primary should read 220 VAC and the secondary should read 20 VAC. If
TR3 is good but the voltages on C1 and C2 are incorrect, check the
continuity in the lines between TR3 and the chopper. If the lines are good,
replace the chopper.
15.
a. If the voltages on the chopper capacitors C1 and C2 are correct, move the
negative lead of the voltmeter to the negative side of the chopper
capacitor C2. Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to pin 5 of
integrated circuit U1. Apply primary power to the unit (a start signal is
not needed). Pin 5 of U1 should measure approximately 5.8 VDC. If pin
5 measures 5.8 VDC, go to step d.
b. If pin 5 did not measure 5.8 VDC in step a, unplug P26 from the logic
board. If pin 5 still does not measure 5.8 VDC, go to step c. If pin 5 now
measures 5.8 VDC, measure the voltage between TP5 and TP11 on the
logic board. If TP11 measures 0 VDC, replace the logic board (skip the
rest of this test).
c. If pin 5 did not measure 5.8 VDC in step b, unplug the chopper connector
P6 and measure the continuity between the two wires connected to pins 4
and 5 (leave P26 unplugged from the logic board). If the two wires are
not shorted together, replace the chopper (skip the rest of this test).
d. Unplug P25 from the logic board. The voltage on pin 5 of U1 should
drop to 0 VDC. If it does not, measure the voltage between TP5 and
TP12 on the logic board. If TP12 measures 0 VDC, check the continuity
in the lines between the logic bard and the chopper. If the lines are good,
replace the logic board.
16.
a. Note that the OC LED illuminated in step d above. Turn the primary
power off to reset the logic board. Move the positive lead of the
voltmeter to pin 10 of U1. Leave the negative lead connected to the
negative side of the chopper capacitor C2. Apply primary power to the
unit (no start signal is needed). Pin 10 should measure 0 VDC. If pin 10
measures 0 VDC, go to step c.
b. If pin 10 did not measure 0 VDC in step a above, unplug P26 from the
logic board. If pin 10 now reads 0 VDC, replace the logic board. If pin
10 still does not read 0 VDC, replace the chopper (skip the rest of this
