1. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1.1 Introduction
Dear Customer
Thank you for choosing a
JOANNES
floor-standing boiler featuring advanced design,
cutting-edge technology, high reliability and quality construction. Please read this man-
ual carefully since it provides important information on safe installation, use and mainte-
nance.
ALPA 31 BS 60
is a high-efficiency heat generator for heating and domestic hot water
production, running on natural gas or LPG, equipped with an open-flue burner with elec-
tronic ignition, sealed chamber with forced ventilation, and microprocessor control sys-
tem. The stainless steel quick storage tank incorporated in the boiler ensures lots of
domestic hot water.

Indication during operation
Heating
A heating demand (generated by the Room Thermostat or Remote Timer Control) is in-
dicated by activation of the radiator (detail 13 - fig. 1).

DHW
A hot water tank heating demand is indicated by activation of the tap (detail 9 - fig. 1).

Exclude hot water tank (economy)
Hot water tank temperature maintaining/heating can be excluded by the user. If exclud-
ed, domestic hot water will not be delivered.
When hot water tank heating is on (default setting), the comfort symbol (detail 12 - fig. 1)
is activated on the display. The hot water tank can be activated/deactivated by the user
through the selection menu.
Press the button
(detail 7 - fig. 1). The display will indicate the selection, which can
be modified by operating the DHW buttons (details 1 and 2 - fig. 1): set ECO (Economy)
or CON (Comfort) and confirm by pressing the button
(detail 7 - fig. 1).
1.3 Turning on and off

The antifreeze system does not work when the power and/or gas to the unit are
turned off. To avoid damage caused by freezing during long idle periods in win-
ter, it is advisable to drain all water from the boiler, DHW circuit and system; or
drain just the DHW circuit and add a suitable antifreeze to the heating system,
complying with that prescribed in sec. 2.3.

Switch on the power to the unit.

For the following 120 seconds the display will show FH which identifies the heating
system air venting cycle.
•
During the first 5 seconds the display will also show the card software version.
•
Open the gas cock ahead of the boiler.
•
When the message FH disappears, the boiler is ready to operate automatically
whenever domestic hot water is drawn or in case of a room thermostat demand.
