1. Turn off your main water supply (pump or water hook-up source).
2. Drain the water heater inner tank. Approximately two quarts of water will remain in
the bottom of the tank. This water contains a great deal of the harmful corrosive
material that has accumulated in the tank.
3. Flush tank with air pressure or fresh water to remove the remaining water.
Air Pressure: Air pressure may be applied through the inlet or outlet valve located
on the rear of the tank or the relief valve located on the front of the unit. If the relief
valve is used, remove the relief valve prior to flushing and insert air pressure
through the relief valve support flange.
Fresh Water: Pump fresh water into tank with the assistance of an onboard or
external water pressure. The water may also be hosed into the tank through the inlet
or outlet valve located on the rear of the tank or the relief valve located on the front
of the unit. If the relief valve is used, remove the relief valve prior to flushing and
insert air pressure through the relief valve support flange. Continue this process for
approximately five minutes, allowing ample time for the water to agitate the stagnant
water on the bottom of the tank and thus forcing the deposits through the drain
opening.
4. Close the drain and relief valves.
