TER 9

Stalling Speed or the minimum steady flight speed

at which

the airplane is controllable in the landing configuration at the
forward-most center of gravity.

Best Angle of Climb Speed

is the airspeed at which delivers

the greatest gain of altitude in the shortest possible horizontal
distance.

Best Rate of Climb Speed

is the airspeed at which delivers the

greatest gain in altitude in the shortest possible time.

Meteorological Terminology

OAT

Outside Air Temperature

is the free static air temperature,

obtained either from in flight temperature indications or
ground meteorological sources, adjusted for instrument error
and compressibility effects

Standard Temperature

is 59 °F (15 °C) at sea level pressure

altitude and decreases by 3.6 °F (2 °C) for each 1000 feet of
altitude.

VMC

Visual Meteorological Conditions

are weather conditions

within the minimum for flight under visual flight rules—also
referred to as VFR conditions.

IMC

Instrument Meteorological Conditions
