Starting and stopping the 8335-GTB

Learn how to start and stop the IBM Power System S822LC (8335-GTB) system to do a service action or
system upgrade.

Starting the 8335-GTB system

You use the power button to start the IBM Power System S822LC (8335-GTB) system.

About this task

Attention:

For safety, airflow purposes and thermal performance, the service access cover must be

installed and fully seated prior to powering the system on.

Attention:

For a water cooled system, before powering on the system, ensure that cooling water is

circulating through the system.

You can use this procedure to power on the system; or you can use a console and the IPMI tool to power
on the system.

Procedure

Open the front rack door, if necessary.

Before you press the power button, ensure that the power supplies are connected to the system unit
and verify the following items:

All system power cables are connected to a power source.

The power-on LED as shown in Figure 218, is flashing. A flashing light indicates standby power to
the unit.

Press the power button shown in Figure 218. The power-on light stops flashing and remains on,
indicating that the system power is on. The system cooling fans run at a high speed, and after
approximately 30 seconds, return to operating speed.

What to do next

If you press the power button and the system does not start, contact your next level of support or your
service provider.
