Symptom
Action
Not
all
drives
are
recognized
by
the
hard
disk
drive
diagnostic
test
(the
Fixed
Disk
test).
Remove
the
drive
that
is
indicated
by
the
diagnostic
tests;
then,
run
the
hard
disk
drive
diagnostic
test
again.
If
the
remaining
drives
are
recognized,
replace
the
drive
that
you
removed
with
a
new
one.
The
computer
stops
responding
during
the
hard
disk
drive
diagnostic
test.
Remove
the
hard
disk
drive
that
was
being
tested
when
the
computer
stopped
responding,
and
run
the
diagnostic
test
again.
If
the
hard

runs
successfully,
replace
the
drive

you
removed
with
a
new

A
hard
disk
drive
was
not
detected
while
the
operating
system
was
being
started.
Reseat
all
hard
disk
drives
and
cables;
then,
run
the
hard
disk
drive
diagnostic
tests
again.
A
hard
disk
drive
passes
the
diagnostic
Fixed
Disk
Test,
but
the
problem
remains.
Run
the
diagnostic
SCSI
Fixed
Disk
Test.
Note:
This
test
is
not
available
on
computers
that
have
RAID
arrays
or
computers
that
have
IDE
or
SATA
hard
disk
drives.

Symptom
Action
A
problem
occurs
only
occasionally
and
is
difficult
to
detect.
Make
sure
that:
v
All
cables
and
cords
are
connected
securely
to
the
rear
of
the
computer
and
attached
options.
v
When
the
computer
is
turned
on,
air
is
flowing
from
the
rear
of
the
computer
at
the
fan
grille.
If
there
is
no
airflow,
the
fan
is
not
working.
This
can
cause
the
computer
to
overheat
and
shut
down.
v
Make
sure
that
the
SCSI
bus
and
devices
are
configured
correctly
and
that
the
last
external
device
in
each
SCSI
chain
is
terminated
correctly.
