that no process sequences are unintentionally triggered as a result of the
functional check. The operator is responsible for periodically carrying out
a functional check or a visual inspection.
8. Maintenance and disposal
When used as intended, Reed float switches are maintenance and
wear-free. To guarantee proper functioning, it is recommended that the
switch undergo a visual inspection as part of the inspections to be carried
out on the respective system. Only original parts must be used for repairs
and maintenance.
Devices must be disposed of in accordance with regional and national re-
gulations and guidelines. Medium residues may be present on the device
when disposing of the device. The operator is responsible for determining
how the device is to be disposed of along with the medium.
9. Hazard notes
The operating temperature and the operating pressure must never
exceed the specifications on the data sheet. The maximum operating
pressure depends on the float. Float switches must not be used as
safety-related limiting devices in the pressure range.
For float switches with a connecting cable without an earth conductor,
the switch may be live in the event of a fault. In the event of contact, phy-
sical injuries or fatal injuries may occur. These devices must be moun-
ted such that they are connected to a potential equalisation system or
are only operated with a low voltage.
Overloading the float switch can destroy the reed contact. The maxi-
mum values for switching power specified on the type plate must not
exceed.
In the case of inductive loading, the float switches must be protected
by means of a protective circuit with an RC element or a free-wheeling
diode. In the case of capacitive loading, a cable length exceeding 50 m or
the connection of a process control system with capacitive input, a pro-
tective resistor must be connected in series to limit the peak current.
During storage and/or operation, float switches must not be subjected
