Step 4
Holding the ejector lever, pull out the drive for about 3 cm (1.18 in.) and wait for the drive to
stop working. See (2) in
. Remove the drive from the server. See (3) in
.
NOTE
l
SAS/SATA drives:
–
After a drive is offline, wait for at least 30 seconds until it stops rotating, and then remove the
drive from the server.
–
If a drive is frequently removed and installed in an interval shorter than 30 seconds, there are
risks that the drive cannot be identified.
l
ES3000 V5 NVMe SSDs that support surprise hot swap:
–
Multiple drives cannot be removed or inserted at the same time. It is recommended that one
ES3000 V5 NVMe SSD be removed or inserted at a time. The interval between two drive
operations must be longer than 3 seconds.
–
The interval for removing and inserting an ES3000 V5 NVMe SSD must be longer than 3
seconds. Otherwise, communication with the drive may become abnormal.
Step 5
Place the removed drive into an ESD bag.
Step 6
If you do not install a new drive immediately, install a drive filler in the slot.
----End
5.3.2 Installing a Drive
Step 1
Wear an ESD wrist strap. For details, see
12 Preventing Electrostatic Discharge
.
NOTE
l
You do not need to power off the server when installing a drive.
l
After a faulty SAS/SATA drive is disconnected from its backplane, wait 30 seconds before removing
it. The alarm will not be cleared immediately after a new drive is installed. It will be cleared after the
RAID array rebuild is complete. Do not frequently hot-swap a drive to prevent new alarms.
l
When installing an ES3000 V5 NVMe SSD, do not pause during the installation process. Otherwise,
the system may fail to detect the ES3000 V5 SSD and may become abnormal. If the SSD cannot be
detected or system exceptions occur, power cycle the server after the SSD is properly installed.
l
If the ES3000 V5 NVMe SSD is not detected due to incorrect operations, remove the SSD and insert
the SSD again to resolve the problem.
Step 2
If the server is equipped with a front bezel, remove the bezel before installing a front drive.
For details, see
5.2.1 Removing the Front Bezel
.
Step 3
Remove the drive filler.
Step 4
Take a spare drive out of its ESD bag.
Step 5
Fully open the ejector lever and push the drive into the chassis along the guide rails as far as it
will go. See (1) in
.
