C.1 Overview
This section describes the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) function of the
ES3000 V3.
SNMP is a request/answer-based protocol used to transmit management information between
an SNMP agent and an SNMP client.
Net-SNMP is an open source code SNMP software that supports SNMP v1, SNMP v2c,
SNMP v3. SNMP v3 is recommended due to its high security. Net-SNMP includes the source
codes of the agent and multiple management tools and supports multiple extension modes.
The SNMP service utility of Windows provides SNMP query and trap functions, but supports
only SNMP v1 and v2c. SNMP v3 is not supported. Therefore, exercise caution when using
the utility.
The ES3000 V3 provides the SNMP extension agent to support the SNMP function. The
extension defines the device management information base (MIB). SNMP clients can query
device status through the SNMP extension agent.
