Note that In the case of the
•
HPE StoreOnce 5100 System: All enclosures of storage must be working for the system to
operate; if any RAIDset fails on any one enclosure due to exceeding the maximum amount
of failed disks then ALL data is lost.
•
HPE StoreOnce 3500 Series: All 12 disks are used for data storage with or without the
license to expand the storage capacity to 100%.
•
HPE StoreOnce 3100 System: If more than one disk fails then the data and operating system
are lost and a “Quick Restore” of the appliance OS will be required before the unit can be
used again.
Hot spare disk and LEDs on the HPE StoreOnce 5100 System
Both the HPE StoreOnce 5100 System and any Capacity Upgrade enclosures have a hot spare
disk in bay 12. If one disk fails in the RAIDset, the hot spare disk automatically takes it place until
the failed disk is replaced. The behavior of the LEDs on the hot spare disk is as follows:
•
Head server: The LED is off on the hot spare disk until it becomes active due to the failure
of another disk in the RAID set. It is flickering green when in use.
•
Capacity Upgrade enclosure: The LED is solid green on the hot spare disk until it becomes
active due to the failure of another disk in the RAID set. It is flashing green when in use.
Ordering the correct replacement disk for a failed disk
IMPORTANT:
HPE strongly recommends replacing a failed disk with a fresh disk from the
factory. Do not substitute a disk from another RAID set.
HPE StoreOnce 5100 System: In the event of a disk failure, it is important to identify whether the
disk is in one of the two OS disk bays or one of the storage disk bays, because different disks
are used in the two locations and the carriers are different.
Always quote the serial number and product number for the enclosure that contains the failed
disk so that support can replace the correct part.
