7 Disk replacement
This chapter describes how to replace individual disks within a RAID set.
NOTE:
For instructions on how to connect additional storage to an HPE StoreOnce 5100
System by adding a new capacity upgrade enclosure (not available with the HPE StoreOnce
3500 Series and HPE StoreOnce 3100 System), please see the printed documentation supplied
with the additional storage.

RAID configuration
All HPE StoreOnce Systems are supplied with their base storage already configured for use.

This is a RAID 5 system; operating system and backup data are stored
on the same RAID Set.

System
This allows for a single drive failure without loss of either the backup
data or OS partitions.
Both systems have two RAID 6 (4+2) sets. The basic capacity is
capped at 50% of the available usable capacity. A software license
is required to use the full capacity. No additional hardware is required.

3540 =12 x 4 TB
HPE StoreOnce 3500
Series
No further enclosures may be added.
The two OS disks in the rear disk bays are dedicated for use by the
operating system and are in a mirrored configuration, such that one
disk can be lost without the system failing.

HPE StoreOnce 5100
System
The 12 storage disks in the front disk bays are in a RAID 6 (9+2 + 1
hotspare) set, such that two disks can be lost without loss of backup
data. The hot spare disk is in bay 12.

Up to five additional enclosures may be added to increase the backup
data capacity, also RAID 6 (9+2 + 1 hotspare).
IMPORTANT:
It is very important that failed disks are replaced promptly.
In order to ensure that you are alerted to disk failures ensure that either or both of SNMP traps
and email alerts are configured so that in the event of a disk failure you are notified immediately
and can take action to replace the disks.
